A new service for the Autumn to help your interview preparation (Oct 2011)

If you need a little help to prepare for a pending interview why not take a look at our interview tips booklet which has telephone and email support included for just £15.  Further information can be found on the "services and prices" web page.  We introduced this service as often our clients secure an interview but then need some specific guidance to help their interview preparation, maybe just to help them formulate answers to likely questions.

The booklet includes a summary of the interview process, some do's and don'ts and provides example questions. Any follow up support you need after reading the booklet can be got via email (just send your questions) or via telephone (just call us and we will respond or arrange a time to give you a timely call you back).  We understand that you can be called for interview at very short notice so we make every effort to help you - often outside business hours.

If you need further info just give us a call on 01844 346747

Reasons to get your CV professionally written (Mar 2011)

There are a variety of reasons people have come to Full Dish Coaching to get their CV written.  These are the top few:

  • Never had a CV before so wouldn't know where to start
  • I'm no good with computers so I need someone to get all the details and lay in out form me
  • "Confusing" employment history which may be difficult to explain
  • Don't have the time to spare so would prefer to get someone to do it
  • Need it in a hurry as a job has just come up!
  • Current CV is just not getting me an interview - what's wrong?
  • Thinking of a career change so need to show how my past experience is relevant to a new role

Whatever the reason your CV needs to reflect you; your skills, your history and your personality.  So whether you choose to write it yourself or get someone to do it for you make sure this is the case.

Time for your end of year review? (Nov 2010)

It's that time again when your manager reviews your performance for the past year. Sometimes these are done well and sometimes they'er not, poorly prepared and rushed so try and take the lead and be prepared. Think about the key tasks you've done and what has gone well.  Manager's can have short memories and so good work done at the beginning of the year can be forgotten. Sometimes the good can get over looked and the focus falls to the negative.  Being realistic, there will possibly be negatives but approach these yourself and turn them into training or development opportunities by proposing a plan.  Your review should be a 2-way process so get yourself prepared to ensure you're proactive in the discussion rather than reactive.

Getting the most from your employer when there's no pay rise on offer (July 2010)

In the current economic climate there may not be a pay increase on offer to you this year.  Not good - but look to the positive. What other non-financial gains could your employer offer that will keep your career on track?  Focus on the in-house training and development opportunities that an employer may be more willing to support to keep you onboard. Why not ask to job shadow for a few days in a different part of the business. It's a great way of better understanding the whole business and the insight will make you more effective at your own job through understanding how your role and actions impact on other functions.  Innovation and improvements come from looking outside you own working area and keeps you ahead of your colleagues in your thinking and performance. This applies to any business no matter how big or small so why not give it a try, you could get to know some interesting people and get something on your CV for when you decide it's time to move on.
